The Anonymous Room mechanic has five specific layers, working together.
Layer 1: Your real identity stays on Salachat's servers
When you sign up with Google, Apple, phone, or email, Salachat needs that information to know it's you. That data sits on Salachat's servers, encrypted at rest. The other person in the Anonymous Room has zero access to it.
Layer 2: The other person sees a generated guest ID
When you enter the Anonymous Room, the system creates a temporary guest ID for the conversation (like "Guest_7392"). This is the only identifier the other person sees. The ID is generated, not assigned to your real account in any visible way.
Layer 3: The default avatar is generic, not your photo
Unless you explicitly choose to show your camera, the Anonymous Room shows a default avatar. The avatar doesn't include your real photo, your initials, or any identifiable information. It's just a neutral placeholder.
Layer 4: Reporting still works without breaking your anonymity
If someone in the Anonymous Room misbehaves, you can report them. Salachat's moderation team has a way to internally trace the reported account for enforcement, even though you and the other person never see each other's real identity. Your anonymity to other users stays intact while safety enforcement still functions.
Layer 5: When the conversation ends, the guest ID is gone. The guest ID assigned to your session doesn't persist after the call ends. The other person can't search for "Guest_7392" later. They can't follow you. They can't message you again unless you both choose to become friends, in which case you each share whatever level of identity you want to. What Anonymity Is Not

Anonymous doesn't mean impossible to identify if you reveal yourself
If you say your real name in the conversation, the other person knows your real name. If you point your camera at the street outside your window, they see where you live. The Anonymous Room protects what Salachat shows about you. It doesn't override what you choose to share verbally or on camera.
Anonymous doesn't mean immune to recording by the other person
We don't record the conversation. But we also can't fully prevent the other person from screen-recording on their own device. Anonymity protects your account identity. It doesn't make screen capture impossible. If you're discussing something especially sensitive, treat the conversation accordingly.
Anonymous doesn't mean Salachat doesn't know who you are
Salachat knows you're you, because you signed in. We don't share this with the other person, but we have it on our servers because we have to (for safety moderation, for account recovery, for billing). If "anonymous" to you means "no entity in the world knows my identity," then no online video chat platform can offer that. The Anonymous Room is anonymous between users, not against Salachat.
Anonymous doesn't mean immune to consequences for bad behavior
If you misbehave in the Anonymous Room, you can still be banned. Salachat's moderation team enforces community guidelines regardless of how you appear to other users. Anonymity is for honest conversation, not for harassment.

The default Anonymous Room is already strong on identity protection. If you want to go further, here are four optional steps you can take.
Turn off your camera and use voice only
The Anonymous Room supports voice-only mode. The other person hears you but doesn't see your face or background. This eliminates the visual identification path entirely. Useful if you're talking from somewhere recognizable, or if you don't want to be reverse-image-searched.
Use a face filter or background blur
If you want to be visible but not identifiable, background blur removes location cues. Face filters obscure facial features without removing the human element of video chat. Both are available in the Anonymous Room UI.
Don't reveal identifiable details in the conversation
This is the simplest and most overlooked step. The other person can't identify you from "Guest_7392," but they can identify you from "I work at [specific company]" or "I live in [specific city]." If full anonymity matters, keep specifics generic.
Use private browsing mode
If you're worried about traces on your own device (a shared computer, a borrowed laptop), opening salachat.me in private or incognito mode clears the local browser cache when you close the window. This doesn't change what Salachat or the other person sees, but it changes what stays on the device you're using.
